CP Classic qualifies 21 for regionals

The CP Classic Running Club of Cedar Park had a terrific showing this weekend at the AAU South Texas District Track & Field Championships contested at Alamo Stadium in San Antonio.

The spectacular performances put on by the CP Classic runners saw 10 medal winning performances for top three places, including two gold medal victories, while 21 athletes qualified for the AAU Region 9A Championships to be held July 13-15 at Alamo Stadium.

The meet was the first AAU qualifier meet and eventually leads to the AAU Junior Olympic Games National Championships in Norfolk, Va. this August.

Leading the charge with multiple medal hauls were Jesse Devlyn, Ashley Isham, Susie Kemper and Andrew Stefani.

Isham and Kemper each grabbed a gold and silver medal, with Isham getting gold in the Intermediate girls' (born 1990-1991) 3,000 meters in a time of 10 minutes, 32.63 seconds and silver in the 1,500 meters in 4:45.93. Kemper got her gold medal in the Midget girls' (born 1994) 1,500 meters in 5:28.80 and a silver in 800 meters in 2:40.70.

Stefani brought home two silver medals in the Sub bantam boys' (born 1997) 400 meters at 1:15.58 and the 1,500 meters in 5:50.68.

Devlyn brought home silver in the Sub Midget boys' 3,000 meters in 11:45.00 and a bronze medal in the 1,500 meters in 5:31.39.

Additional medalist were: Ian Devlyn, a bronze medal in the Sub Bantam boys' 800 meters in 2:56.15 and Nick Fleher with a bronze medal in the Bantam boys' (born 1996) 1,500 meters in 6:02.34.
