The Austin Community College District welcomed three new trustees to its board and thanked the outgoing trustees for their dedicated service during a meeting held at the college Monday night.
Judge Bob Perkins swore in re-elected trustee Nan McRaven and new trustees John-Michael Cortez and Rual Alvarex, and new trustee Tim Mahoney was sworn in by Round Rock Mayor Alan M. McGraw. The new trustees began work immediately, participating in their first regular meeting which included selecting new officers. Nan McRaven was elected board chair, Veronica Rivera is the vice-chair and James McGuffee remains as secretary.
Dr. Stephen Kinslow, president of ACC and the board of trustees took a moment during the meeting to thank outgoing trustees John Hernandez and Rafael Quintanilla for their dedication, support and contributions to ACC and its missions.
Quintanilla served on the board for 11 years, including two years as the board chair. He has instrumental in the growth and success of the college. During this tenure, ACC added two new campuses, grew from 25,000 students to over 33,000 students and expanded its district to include Manor, Del Valle, Round Rock and all of Austin.
"Rafael has been extremely wise in our policy decision process and he has been consistent with putting the students first in that decision making process," said Kinslow during his remarks.
John Hernandex served on the board for six years, two as vice chair and the last two as chair of the board. Hernandex will continue to support ACC and further the mission of the college through the ACC Foundation.
"John has been a huge proponent of advancing the college mission and has participating in 100s of community events in doing so," said Kinslow. "His efforts were vital to our recent successful Round Rock election."
