With the next Cedar Park City Council election heating up, the first batch of campaign finance reports released Wednesday, Jan. 15, already shows big money donations from a small, concentrated collection of donors have returned to dominate local fundraising for the 2020 races.

Cedar Park pastor Hanoi Avila has also dropped out of his council race.

Showtime plans to air a new five-part documentary "Outcry" this March during Austin's South by Southwest (SXSW) festival about former Leander High School football star Greg Kelley's 2014 conviction for criminal sexual misconduct and his struggles to eventually be officially exonerated of the crime this November in Williamson County District Court.

Showtime plans to premiere the series at the festival before airing it on Showtime starting April 3.

Due to a failed agenda item last week involving a loan agreement for a pricey ATV submitted by Williamson County Sheriff Robert Chody, Williamson County Judge Bill Gravell suggested the commissioners court should require regular agenda items to be sponsored by either himself or one of the commissioners before it can be placed on the agenda.

The Travis County Sheriff’s Office received multiple 911 calls from the Chase bank at FM 620 and Quinlan Park Road at 1:15 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16. Callers reported a man walked into the bank, pulled out a gun and demanded money. Deputies and assisting officers were on scene in less than two minutes.

A Cedar Park Fire Department driver/engineer was charged Friday, Jan. 10, in Hamilton County District Court with one count of third-degree felony possession of child pornography and two counts of second-degree felony promotion of child pornography.

Jay Cortez, 51, who has been with the city for more than 17 years, was charged with the crimes but has not yet been indicted pending investigation by a Hamilton County grand jury. He posted a $27,000 bond and is no longer in jail.

In the middle of the budget year, the Williamson County Sheriff's Department asked Williamson County Commissioners permission for a lease-purchase agreement for a new ATV. Commissioners said no. 


Indeed, the idea didn't even get enough support to go to a vote. Williamson County Commissioner Cynthia Long's motion to approve the contract didn't even get a second.
