Kool treatsKrispy Kreme opened its doors Friday in Cedar Park. The shop, located in the shopping center with Dickey's Barbecue near Walmart on RM 1431, held a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Rec Center celebrates ribbon cutting on SaturdayIn an area full of pools, trails and other natural ways to exercise, Cedar Park is now offering a chance for its citizens to work out in an air conditioned environment in the new 47,500-square-foot, state-of-art recreation center, which will open its doors for a ribbon cutting on Saturday.
Puryear honored for photoA print entitled “Champagne du Cheval” created by Jack Puryear of Puryear Photography in Leander has recently been honored for display in Kerrville, Texas at the Texas Professional Photographer's competition and exhibit.
YMCA surfaces on Leander agendaThe Leander City Council talked at length Thursday night about the possibility of a YMCA coming to town. The agenda item called for possibly assembling a Bond Task Force, but no action was taken. Council agreed to listen to community groups and get their input before setting up a task force.

Rotary, Knights of the Guild set sights on LISDRotary International and the Knights of the Guild have developed a program designed to teach character to children in grades K through 8. The program, known as Early Act - First Knight, has been a big hit in the Lake Travis school district, and local Rotarians would like to start it up in Leander ISD as well.

Sweet TreatsA ribbon cutting was recently held at Schlotzsky's Deli at the intersection of RM 1431 and U.S. 183 to welcome Cinnabon and Carvel Ice Cream to the store. Both stores are now selling their sweet products inside Schlotzsky's. The Cedar Park Chamber of Commerce was on hand to welcome the businesses.
Speaking outCedar Park resident Heather Long speaks during a press conference held at Cedar Park Regional Medical Center last week about the need for a national undiagnosed disease registry. Long, who lost her 5-year-old son Cal to an undiagnosed disease, has joined forces with Congressman John Carter (left) to try and get a bill passed to make the registry happen.

Henry Middle School band advances to state competitionOn Saturday, June 20, the Henry Middle School Band program advanced from the Area level to the State level of competition in class CCC Honor Band. The top two ranked bands are sent as representatives from their Area to the State competition.
Cities ready for Fourth of July festivalsThe Fourth of July is always a festive day in the area, as many cities and neighborhoods join together to have fireworks, parades, games and lots of food to celebrate America's independence. This year proves to be just as busy as Cedar Park and Leander have celebrations planned for residents to enjoy.
