The top-rated movie theater in country will open a new location in Cedar Park as a part of the city’s first mixed-use development.
The Cedar Park City Council last week unanimously approved an incentive deal that will reimburse Riverside Resources up to $1.5 million for infrastructure improvements associated with the construction of Phase 2 of the Presidio development near the intersection of Parmer Lane and Ranch Trails.
The Presidio opened in 2017, with Phase 1 of the project scheduled for a total of 74,000 square feet of office space, a 100-room hotel, 320 lofts and 21,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space located on 26 acres.
Cedar Park Economic Development Director Phil Brewer said last week that Phase 2, part of an additional 74 acres purchased by the developers, was contingent upon Alamo Drafthouse serving as an anchor for the development. The project will include an additional 90,000 square feet of office space in addition to more apartments, restaurants and retail locations.
Cedar Park Mayor Matt Powell said his efforts to bring an Alamo Drafthouse to Cedar Park date back to 2009.
The Austin-based theater chain was named “best theater in the nation” by Entertainment Weekly and was recently named the fifth-most innovative company in the world by Fast Company magazine.
Economic Development Director Phil Brewer said Phase 2 of the Presidio project was contingent upon the movie theater serving as an anchor for the development.
Cedar Park Mayor Matt Powell said he had been in discussions with representatives from Alamo Drafthouse since 2009 and came to an agreement on locating in the Presidio development in the last month.
“It’s the No. 1 rated movie theater in America, and I think it’s high time Cedar Park had one,” Powell said.
