Austin Bold FC bounced back from a lopsided loss with another home win on Saturday night.
The Bold downed Fresno FC 1-0 thanks to a pair of first-half goals from winger Promise Isaac. Austin hasn’t lost at Bold Stadium at Circuit oft eh Americas in the last five matches and is still in 4th place in the USL Championship Western Conference.
Isaac is tied for fourth on the team with two goals this season while Kris Tyrpak moved into a tie for the team lead with three assists.
Fresno finished the game with a slight advantage in possession. The teams finished with 12 shots apiece, but Austin had the advantage with 6 shots on target.
Isaac almost scored earlier in the game when he got on the end of a chipped ball over the top, but the Fresno FC keeper was right there to kick it away.
Fresno had a golden opportunity to take the lead late in the first half with a close-range shot, but Austin keeper Diego Restrepo stretched out to make an impressive diving save and keep the game scoreless.
Isaac broke through in the 43rd minute when Tyrpak, a Dripping Spring native, carried the ball from midfield and passed it through the backline to an open Isaac, who found the top corner of the net.
Fresno had its chances in the second half, forcing Restrepo into a dying save in the 69th minute and nearly evening things up from a free kick in the final moments of extra time.
“Restrepo has an undeniable talent, and it's great to have him on the team,” Bold head coach Marcelo Serrano said. “It's also great to have (Bold FC keeper Juan David Ramierez) here competing for the starting spot. He's another great goalkeeper. I think we have a great opportunity to have both of them in our squad. I believe Restrepo did well today. He's a great goalkeeper and having a guy right on your tail keeps his playing level high.”
Austin hits the road to take on New Mexico United on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. before returning home for two straight games, beginning with LA Galaxy II on Aug. 10 and Tulsa Roughnecks FC on Aug. 17.
