Something has to give when Cedar Ridge and Round Rock face off Friday night.
Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex will play host to the two Round Rock ISD rivals at 7 p.m. Behind undefeated Vandegrift, the two schools are tied for second in District 13-6A with just three weeks remaining in the season.
Round Rock heads into the rivalry game having throttled Stony Point 43-7 last week. Cedar Ridge took it to Vista Ridge with a 62-7 win in Cedar Park last weekend.
The offense has been the name of the game for the schools with identical 4-1 district records. The Dragons (294) and Raiders (261) have scored more points this season than any other team in their nine-school district.
Round Rock quarterback Ryan O'Keefe leads a rushing attack that has averaged 337 yards per game on the ground this season while running back Marquis Brown provides a powerful rushing option with his team-leading 16 touchdowns this season.
The Dragons have scored an excess of 40 points in five of their seven games thus far this season, including in the last two matches, both wins against Leander (49-30) and Stony Point (43-7).
The Raiders are a more pass-oriented team. Quarterback Jalen Brown has thrown for 13 touchdowns and has over 200 yards passing in each of his last four games, utilizing his main target Jaylen Ellis, who has 676 receiving yards and eight scores so far.
Head coach Sam Robinson's team has won four straight contests after a tough 1-2 start to the season. On their way to a district crown, Cedar Ridge bested Round Rock 48-28 last year. The Dragons last beat the Raiders in 2015, winning 31-28 at Kelly Reeves.
Cedar Ridge returns to Reeves for a game against McNeil, while Round Rock takes on Hendrickson at Dragon Stadium at RRHS next Friday.
