The Express dropped their second straight game, falling to the Memphis Redbirds 5-4 on the road Wednesday night.
Round Rock starter Kent Emanuel (7-2, 4.23) suffered a tough-luck loss, allowing five runs on eight hits with three strikeouts over 7.2 innings. He held Memphis scoreless in seven consecutive innings before giving up five runs on eight hits in the bottom of the eighth.
The loss, coupled with a 9-4 win by the San Antonio Missions, means the Express' lead in the PCL American Southern Division is down to 1.5 games with less then two weeks left in the regular season.
Memphis opened up a one-run lead in first inning with a pair of singles and a sac fly.
Express first baseman Abraham Toro hit his first Triple-A home run in the sixth inning to give Round Rock a 2-1 lead. In the next inning, Alex De Goti hit a two-run home run to extend the lead to 4-1.
The Redbird scored four runs in the eighth inning, including a two-run home run that ultimately decided the 5-4 defeat.
The Express hope to settle for a split in Wednesday night's series finale. Round Rock lefty Ryan Hartman (6-5, 5.24) is set to start opposite Memphis Chris Ellis (4-5, 7.21). First pitch is slated for 6:35 p.m.
