Round Rock continued to blast home runs and Express won four of six games on their most recent road trip they wrapped up on Monday.
The Express are second in the Pacific Coast League with 36 home runs in just 18 games this season. Outfielder Yordan Alvarez leads the league with 10 home runs in 17 games and is second in the league with 26 RBIs.
Round Rock won the first two games of its three-game series against Rangers affiliate Nashville Sounds. The final game of the series was suspended with the teams tied 0-0 in the bottom of the second inning and will be completed on May 27.
The rain continued to wreak havoc, postponing the Express’ Friday night game against the Memphis Redbirds. Round Rock and Memphis split the doubleheader on Saturday and the Redbirds beat the Express 5-3 on Sunday.
Express first baseman Taylor Jones hit two home runs and finished with three RBIs to help Round Rock down the Redbirds 9-4 to wrap up the trip on Monday. Starter Brady Rodgers (2-0, 2.25) picked up his second win in a row, allowing three runs on four hits in six innings.
The most exciting game of the trip came in the first game of the doubleheader on Saturday. Round Rock trailed 6-2 after six innings but scored nine runs in the seventh to pull out an 11-2 win. Jack Mayfield drove in a pair of runs while Alvarez and outfielder Kyle Tucker each hit home runs in the massive inning.
Top pitching prospect Forrest Whitley had a solid start Sunday in his third Triple-A appearance, allowing one run on two hits with five strikeouts. The Redbirds eventually won on a walk-off home run in the 10th inning.
Round Rock returns to Dell Dimond for five straight games against the New Orleans Baby Cakes beginning Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. and concludes Sunday at 1:05 p.m.
