Lago Vista marks Fourth of July with run, parade and 80s-themed celebration

Lago Vista celebrated Independence Day with a variety of events, including a competition run, a parade, and an 80s-themed celebration followed by a fireworks display.

Lago Vista City Manager Joshua Ray estimated that the parade was greeted by at least 2,000 people along Dawn Drive and that the celebration portion of Independence Day festivities at Bar K Park hosted around 4,000 people.

Ray said that the beaches surrounding the park were packed with boaters and beachgoers. He said that food vendors at the celebration, which had the rock cover band LC Rocks playing songs to attendees throughout the day, eventually sold out of food.

The race, called the Firecracker 5K, started at 8 a.m. and ran along the north shore of Lake Travis with 126 runners competing. Awards were given at the end of the race to the top competitors in six different age groups, both male and female. The overall champions were Dan Adler, who won in the male category with a time of 18 minutes and 19 seconds, and Andrea Megnin, who contended in the female category and achieved a time of 21 minutes and 17 seconds.

The festival went out with a bang in the evening with fireworks over the lake, which began at 9:15 p.m.
