Leander ISD students shine on the biggest stages. Our philosophy in educating the whole child includes robust fine arts and athletics programs that excel in competitions throughout the state.
I was thrilled to watch as LISD students earned three of the top five spots in the UIL 6A State Marching Band competition. The State Champion Vista Ridge Ranger Band took top honors, while Vandegrift finished third and Leander fifth.
The hours of meticulous preparation and regular practice paid off for our talented students.
Sitting in the Alamodome on Nov. 6 to watch the bands compete in the finals, I could see the passionate parents and the entire school rally in support of our students. It is incredible to think about all of the time and energy our caring band communities put into their competition year, making this an extraordinary part of our LISD community. Thank you to all of our parents, teachers, administrators, and staff who support all six marching band programs at LISD.
Running earlier this month at the state cross country meet in Round Rock, student-athletes showcased their endurance and prowess with the best in Texas. The Cedar Park High School girls and boys cross country teams finished third and fourth in the state, respectively, and runners from Vandegrift and Rouse high schools also posted strong showings.
On the volleyball court, several of our high schools had outstanding seasons. Vandegrift was a district champion, while Rouse and Cedar Park were co-district champs. A tip of the hat to the Lady Raiders, who have been in the regional tournament three years in a row. I look forward to the the football playoffs, where we have several teams in position to make a postseason run.
The celebrations of our superb students, caring coaches and talented teachers earning state recognition this fall are sure to carry over to the most critical category of our success, generating graduates. As a superintendent, I know the young men and women earning distinctions in fine arts and athletics this year will be on the graduation stage as valedictorians, salutatorians, and among the highest achievers in the graduating classes this May/June and in the years to come.
Congratulations to all of our fall 2018 award winners!
