Curtis McKenzie had a hat trick to lead the Texas Stars to their fourth straight victory, a 5-2 win on the road against the Grand Rapids Griffins Wednesday night.
McKenzie scored two goals in the opening period to give Texas a 2-1 lead after the first frame. His unassisted goal midway through the second period was the game winner in the Stars’ seventh win in nine games.
The forward leads the team with 11 goals on the season and is second with 20 points. Travis Morin finished with a goal and an assist to give him 18 on the season and leads the team with 22 points.
Landon Bow won for the seventh time in his last 10 games after stopping 27 of 29 shots. After making 11 appearances, the rookie has a 2.44 goals against average and .912 save percentage.
Grand Rapids opened the scoring midway through the second frame before McKenzie scored five minutes apart to give Texas a lead.
Tyler Bertuzzi tied the game one minute into the final period and McKenzie won the game six minutes later. Max French scored his third goal of the season to make it a 4-2 game on an odd-man rush five minutes later and Morin put the game away with just over five minutes left.
Texas and Grand Rapids meet again Friday at 6 p.m. The Stars finish off their seven-game road trip Saturday at 6 p.m. against the Rockford IceHogs and return home Dec. 5 when they host the Iowa Wild at 7:30 p.m.
