Neil Graham hired as Texas Stars assistant coach

Posted

The Dallas Stars announced Monday that Neil Graham has been appointed as assistant coach of the Texas Stars next season.

Graham spent four seasons as the head coach of the Idaho Steelheads, the ECHL affiliate of the Dallas Stars. He replaces Bob Jones, who was named an assistant coach with the Ottawa Senators of the NHL earlier this month.

"Neil has proven himself as a capable coach during his tenure in Idaho," Dallas Stars Assistant General Manager and Texas Stars General Manager Scott White said. "His experience as a coach and player will be a tremendous asset to head coach Derek Laxdal and the entire Texas Stars coaching staff."

In four seasons at the helm in Idaho, Graham compiled a 166-91-31 record and helped the Steelheads win 40 games in three straight seasons. The team made the playoffs all four years he was in charge.

He was a play/coach in 2012-13 before becoming a full-time assistant coach after his playing days in 2013-14 and 2014-15. Originally from Calgary, Alberta, he appeared in 113 professional games between the ECHL and Southern Professional Hockey League.

Texas missed out on the playoffs last season for the second time in three years last season, just one year after going on a second-half run and advancing to Game 7 of the Calder Cup Finals in 2017-18.

The Stars will begin their 11th season in Cedar Park when they host the Tucson roadrunners Friday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m.
