Danae Gibbs, a part time children’s ministry staff member at Riverbend Church, was one of the hundreds of wounded victims in the Las Vegas mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Festival.

Gibbs was shot twice: once in the groin, and once in the abdomen. As of Monday night, she was out of surgery and in recovery at University Medical Center in Las Vegas. She was still groggy from the surgery but she is expected to recover well, said Kevin Hedges, Riverbend pastor of creative arts.

On Sunday night, Gibbs, 23, was at the three-day country music festival listening to Jason Aldean with a friend as part of an early birthday celebration. Gibbs will be turning 24 later this month.

Gibbs, who lives in the San Marcos/New Braunfels area, graduated from Texas Tech University in the class of 2017 several months ago.

Gibbs mother, DeDe Kellicker of Cedar Park, works for Riverbend as an administrative coordinator for Riverbend Centre for the Arts located not far from Four Points at 4214 N Capital of Texas Hwy.

“I just feel so sad that so many lost their lives. I don't know what to say,” said Kellicker. “Please remember those families that weren't so fortunate... this is just too tragic for words…”

As of Tuesday morning, at least 59 people are dead and 527 others wounded after gunman Stephen Paddock, 64, opened fire into the crowd of more than 22,000 who were at the Route 91 Harvest Festival.  Police found Paddock dead in his 32-floor suite at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino with 23 firearms.

Gibbs’ father, Darrell Gibbs, posted to Facebook just before 3 a.m. on Monday asking for prayers for the victims of the attack.

“Pray for the Las Vegas shooting victims. My daughter is one of them,” he wrote.

"Riverbend is asking everyone to pray for Danae, and all of the victims and families affected by this horrible event,” Hedges said.

A GoFundMe page for Gibbs was not started by the family and they are not asking people to give at this time.
