ROUNDTABLE: Why do bad things happen to good people?

Posted

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope your week is filled with laughter, peace and rest.

The round table question asks, “As a faith leader, what is the most commonly asked question you receive, and how do you answer it?”

The most common question I receive is “Why do bad things happen to good people?” That is such a tough subject because the things categorized as unfortunate, vary in range and impact from one family to another. Two things are clear in the Word of God. Matthew 5:45 says..."He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.” Although, that essentially says, he rains on the just and the unjust. The bible also teaches us that He works all things together for the good of them that love the Lord and are called according to His purpose. If one thing is certain - there is HOPE in the midst of tragedy, sadness, pain, hurt, anguish, anger and despair.

The bible teaches us – many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers us out of them all. When a family is going through significant difficulty it’s important to know Christ can bring peace into the middle of any storm. His promises never change. His Word will never fail. His promises are our rock-solid truth and that truth says He is our shelter. We can count on him during our worst moments. Psalms 121 teaches us that our help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth. He will not let our foot slip. He watches over us and does not slumber nor sleep. He is the shade at our right hand.

In the midst of hardship, we can feel as though our faith has been shipwrecked. When we have faith failure, it is often because we have not placed our faith in Christ, but other things. I want to encourage you not to limit God - who is more than able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above what you can ask or think, according to the power that works in you. No matter what you are going through or have experienced; if you ask the Lord He will turn the tables into your favor. He is the center and circumference, the base, and boundary, the sum and substance of what life is all about. You are loved, appreciated, respected, full of His wisdom, over comer, victorious, and winning in life!

God Bless,
