The community will once again have a say in the naming of Leander ISD’s new schools.
The district is seeking public submissions for school names for its 27th elementary school, opening in the fall of 2019, and its ninth middle school, opening in the fall of 2020.
Elementary School 27 will be located in the Larkspur subdivision in the northernmost portion of the district’s territory.
Middle School 9 will be located across from Glenn High School, also in the fast-growing northern portion of the district.
The LISD board adopted ‘Scenario B’ for attendance zone boundaries for ES 27, which estimates show should open with 493 students from neighborhoods immediately surrounding the new campus.
However, district documents show the ES 27 campus, built for a capacity of 800 students, is expected to exceed capacity in just five years.
The board will begin reviewing possible zoning scenarios for MS 9 in the upcoming months.
The deadline for public input on naming of the schools is Nov. 14. Interested persons can visit
https://www.leanderisd.org/about/school_name_nominations to submit a nomination.
The LISD Board of Trustees will vote to adopt school names at a board meeting after the nomination deadline.
