Second shooting victim dies

A 23-year-old woman shot in what police now say is a double murder-suicide in Cedar Park has died.

Hailey Reyes, a resident of San Antonio, was declared dead on Monday. Reyes had been on life support at St. David’s Round Rock since the shooting, which occurred on May 12 in the Castle Bridge subdivision in Cedar Park.

Cedar Park police spokesperson Alicia Inns said the investigation into the shooting continues, as detectives continue to seek a motive for the incident that claimed the lives of Reyes and her father, John Michael Garcia. The suspected shooter, said to be an estranged brother of Garcia’s, is said to have turned the gun on himself after shooting Garcia and Reyes in the front yard of the home on Dogwood Trail.

Inns also said detectives are currently seeking help from the public in locating 87-year-old Ruben Perez Garcia, who is the father of the two brothers killed in the incident.

Witnesses said Elijah Jared Stone, 47, ambushed Garcia and Reyes as they returned home from a day with family and friends at Lake Austin. Family members have said Stone suffered from mental illness and has been institutionalized in the past, but had no known contact with Garcia for a 10-year period leading up to the shooting.

Inns said anyone with information on the whereabouts of Ruben Perez Garcia or has any other information on the case should contact Detective Larry Bond at 512-260-4766.
