St. David's HealthCare today announced the opening of St. David's Emergency Center in Leander, which serves as an extension of St. David's Round Rock Medical Center, a Level II Trauma Center.

The 11,200 square foot emergency center will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, as a full-service emergency department. It features 12 treatment beds and advanced testing capabilities, including radiological testing and a medical lab.

The center is located at 601 St. David's Loop, between Highway 183 and the 183A Toll Road on San Gabriel Parkway.

St. David's Round Rock Medical Center is pleased to bring comprehensive emergency care to the Leander community, Jeremy Barclay, chief executive officer of St. David's Round Rock Medical Center, said. This emergency center is the first phase of what will eventually become a community hospital. We look forward to expanding access to high-quality medical care for one of the fastest growing cities in our country.

Until construction of the hospital is complete, patients requiring inpatient care will be transported from the facility to area hospitals.

St. David's Round Rock Medical Center has named Dr. Will Davis as medical director of St. David's Emergency Center in Leander. Dr. Davis has worked at St. David's Round Rock Medical Center for the past 11 years, and he is currently co-medical director of the hospital's emergency department.

The emergency center has hired 25 employees, including nurses, imaging personnel, laboratory personnel, registration staff and support personnel. The future opening of the community hospital will create more than 200 jobs.
