The second weekend of the regular season was slightly more successful for Texas.
In a two-game series on the road against the Iowa Wild, the Stars went to a shootout in both games, winning their first game of the season in thrilling fashion on 2-1 on Saturday and falling 5-4 on Friday night.
Stars goalie Landon Bow stopped 35 shots in the win on Saturday, the 52nd win of his AHL career.
Jason Robertson scored his second career goal in the second period. Iowa tied things up midway through the third period, but the Stars scored twice in the shootout, including the clincher by Tanner Kero.
On Friday, it was Denis Gurianov that stole the show.
The former first-round pick was sent from Dallas to the AHL after recording five shots and one goal in the NHL this season. He’s spent part of the last two seasons with the developmental club in Cedar Park.
Looking for a confidence boost, he scored his second career hat trick, tallying three goals in the second period. After the Wild scored late in the third period, he also scored in the shootout, something he did in both games this weekend.
Texas returns to the HEB Center for two games against the Grand Rapids Griffins this weekend beginning Friday night at 7 p.m. The Stars will retire Travis Morin’s No. 23 jersey before the game on Saturday night.
