Toyota of Cedar Park dealership opens

At the grand opening of Toyota of Cedar Park, organizers rolled out the red carpet for an evening of food, drinks and live music celebrating the new car dealership Tuesday, June 6.

A ribbon cutting ceremony with remarks from dealership executives commemorated the new 80,000-square-foot facility, located north of the New Hope Drive exit at 5600 183A in Cedar Park. About 200 people were there, including several city officials. Mayor Matt Powell spoke a few words about the event.

“This is a project we’ve had unlike any other in the city before,” Powell said. “The building is almost unprecedented. It’s absolutely gorgeous. From the beginning, the entire team said we want to be a part of the community from day one, and we’re happy to have you here.”

Toyota of Cedar Park will employ 140 community members and features 40 service bays, a car wash, oversized customer lounges, a home decor boutique, a Starbucks cafe, a children’s play area and a dog park.

The dealership, designed by Gensler Architecture and built by White Construction of Austin, sits on 20 acres.

The cornerstone of the dealership’s design is the rulan, a large, wood paneled half-arch that towers up into the ceiling of the customer lounge.

“This place is going to do wonderful things,” said Julie Herrera, dealer principal. “No great thing can happen with one person. It takes everybody. This journey has been phenomenal and I am looking forward to rocking Cedar Park.”

Stephen Cavender, a dealership partner, spoke to how Toyota plans on growing alongside Cedar Park and Leander’s projected population growth.

“The great Wayne Gretzky once said you don’t skate to where the puck is, you skate to where it’s going to be. We skated to where it’s going to be,” he said. “We’re looking forward to growing with you as a team in Cedar Park, because this is a vibrant community and we’re very proud.”

As tradition with every opening of a Toyota dealership, Herrera was presented with an honorary katana sword. In Japanese culture, katanas symbolize the code of the samurai: honor, justice, loyalty, pride and respect.
