The Crusaders of Mary Hardin-Baylor University will play host to Howard Payne in an American Southwest Conference football matchup on Saturday afternoon. The game, slated for a 1 p.m. start, will be set at Belton's Crusader Stadium.
UMHB sports a 5-0 overall record and a 4-0 win/loss mark in conference play. The Crusaders, winners of their last 20 total games, boast the number-one national ranking in the NCAA's Division III level. UMHB is coming off of a 17-7 win last week in Abilene at ASC rivals and 5th-ranked Hardin-Simmons.
"We certainly aren't taking Howard Payne lightly, and we know they will present some challenges for us, but we need to focus on us and how we can continue to improve as a team," Crusaders head coach Pete Fredenberg told CruAthletics.com. "We want to take what we did at Hardin-Simmons and learn and get better from that."
Howard Payne, located in Brownwood, sends its 1-4 Yellow Jackets into Belton hoping for a better result than last year's 59-10 loss. Mary Hardin-Baylor leads the overall series 17-2, last falling to Howard Payne 24-20 in 2005.
UMHB's defense has been the story this season, allowing double-digit points in just one of five games this season. Opponents are averaging 6.8 points per game against The Cru.
