Avid swimmers and mermaid fanatics in the Austin area will be able to fulfill their dreams of sprouting colorful tails and becoming part of the undersea world with the addition of a new school called AquaMermaid.
Founded in Feb. 2015 in Montreal by Marielle Chartier Henault, AquaMermaid is the largest mermaid school in the world and operates more than 10 locations worldwide including Toronto, Ottawa, Quebec, Edmonton, Chicago, Las Vegas, Fort Lauderdale, Phoenix and most recently, Cedar Park.
When Henault bridged her love for swimming, fitness and mermaids into a mermaid school, she envisioned at its core, a positive-energy. AquaMermaid is now a fun alternative to other workouts, offering a variety of classes catered to all ages, genders and swimming levels.
The school offers unique mermaid classes featuring a team of 50 specialized instructors and teaches attendees how to condition their bodies to swim like a real mermaid.
AquaMermaid allows students to develop swimming skills, dolphin kick fluidity and propulsion power. Classes are low impact and take pressure off joints, alleviating pain and discomfort.
AquaMermaid also manufactures its own unique swimmable mermaid tail line. Henault said with the industry growing quickly, AquaMermaid sells licenses to train entrepreneurs wanting to open a school in their own city. In addition, AquaMermaid partners with hotels and resorts to offer mermaid swimming classes to their guests.
Henault is a monofin swimming instructor and a Business undergraduate from HEC Montreal University. She has an executive background at Bell telecom and has gained entrepreneurial experience having owned a window cleaning franchise.
Classes will be available for children from age 7 and up, as well as adults.
A pre-opening class will be on Sept. 29 at 2 p.m. at Nitro Swimming, 1310 Toro Grande Dr, Cedar Park, where the school will officially open on Oct. 6.
