The Vandegrift High School percussion ensemble performed in a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity at the Midwest International Clinic and Conference in Chicago over winter break.
The performance took place at McCormick Place, the largest convention center in America, on Dec. 22.
Out of more than 20 performance recording submissions, only Vandegrift and one other school got selected for a percussion ensemble performance.
"To me, it means a lot to perform at Midwest. It means that our percussion ensemble is one of the best ensembles in the nation," said junior Justin Jalomo. "This is my second time going to Midwest since I went in eighth grade and I’m very blessed to go twice. It’s an honor that should be not be taken for granted."
The group performed nine different ensemble percussion pieces throughout the span of 45 minutes.
"Our director, Mr. Hobbs, was strict and picky with every piece but it all paid off in the end," Jalomo said.
