Westwood faces a high-flying Austin High offense on Friday when they host the Maroons at Dragon Stadium Friday at 7 p.m.
Both teams enter the game at 1-0 after offensive eruptions in week one. Austin hung 56 points in their week one victory over Connally, while Westwood tallied 38 points in its season-opening win over East View.
With rain in the forecast, the ground games of the two clubs are that much more important. It could be an offensive shootout under the lights on Friday.
Westwood running backs Mario Debs and Nate Williams are both coming off 100-yard rushing games, helping Westwood accumulate 466 total offensive yards last weekend.
Warriors' sophomore quarterback R.J. Martinez completed 21 of 32 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns through the air, while also scoring three rushing touchdowns in his varsity debut.
This is final non-district game for Westwood before District 13-6A play begins next week.
Westwood lost just one of five home games last season, the sole defeat coming to state semifinalists Cedar Ridge. That 4-1 home record helped elevate the Warriors to a berth in the postseason.
Westwood has started a season at 2-0 just once in the past six seasons.
