Williamson County Commissioners voted 5-0 Tuesday to end it’s contract with the company that produces the “Live PD” television show, which airs on the A&E Network.
The termination will be effective in 30 days.
At the urging of Sheriff Robert Chody, WilCo commissioners had voted 3-2 in May to renew the contract with Big Fish Entertainment, LLC. He called the department’s involvement in the television show a great recruiting tool.
Much of the discussion prior to the vote revolved around the perceptions that deputies play to the cameras and tended to be more aggressive while on the show.
The move comes as Chody’s department has come under fire for a commander’s questionable social media posts. Commander Stephen Deaton posted what many consider to be racially and sexually objectionable photos, which were later “liked” by both Chody and County Judge Bill Gravell.
Earlier this year, Deaton challenged his officers to pursue sex with a female producer for the A&E program. Officers in the room when Deaton made the comment later confirmed the charge.
