We are fortunate, in Leander ISD, to live in a community where residents love where they live. Many locals have enjoyed raising children who attended LISD schools and now enjoy retired life in the same home or neighborhood where they have resided for decades.
As much as they have seen our landscape grow and change, so too have we changed the way we build our new schools and educate our students, now their grandchildren. And we want to give them an opportunity to see firsthand what that change looks like.
I am excited to introduce one of this year’s newest programs, the LISD Gold Tour. It is a monthly event for our senior friends to tour our schools, to learn more about our various programs and operations and to discover ways to get involved.
Participants meet at Cedar Park Regional Medical Center (CPRMC) at 10:30 a.m. and board a bus to one of our schools, where they learn from district experts about topics like classroom instruction and technology; student support services; school finance; construction and growth; and community involvement. Tour members will enjoy a complimentary lunch together before returning to CPRMC at 1:30 p.m.
Our first tour started us off on a high note last Thursday. We had a great group – including LISD luminary Doris Gupton, wife of John Gupton, for whom one of our stadiums is named, as well as active volunteers in our community, retired teachers and grandparents of LISD students – who got a behind the scenes look at Cedar Park High School. They also learned all about our state-ranked athletics and fine arts programs.
The Gold Tour, including all materials, lunch and transportation, are provided free of cost to participants thanks to our generous sponsors at CPRMC. Participants also receive their LISD Gold Card, which grants them access to most district athletic and fine arts events.
Those interested in joining our Tour do not need to have grandchildren in or association with LISD to participate. We only ask that they reserve a seat by emailing GoldTour@leanderisd.org or signing up at CPRMC ahead of each event.

I am eager to watch this new program grow and flourish, to better engage part of our community that has been so integral to building the wonderful area we all now enjoy. We hope you will join us and invite your friends, parents and neighbors to participate, to help us build 1 Community, 1 Purpose, 1 LISD!
