Twelve local athletes qualify for State Track & Field Meet

Of the thousands of athletes filling Mike A. Meyers Stadium for the UIL State Track and Field Meet, 12 will be representing the Leander and Round Rock ISDs. 

Cedar Park, Glenn and Rouse will all compete on Friday, with field events beginning at 8 a.m. Athletes from Class 6A schools McNeil, Round Rock and Vandegrift will compete on Saturday when field events and the 3200-meter run beginning at 8 a.m. 

Meghan Wilcox qualified in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dash. She ran the 100-meter dash in 11.78 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 25.07. Freshman Kevin Adams will represent the Timberwolves in boys’ shot put, qualifying for the state meet with a throw of 55 feet, 5 inches. 

Gabby Thomas returns to the state meet after competing in two events last year, qualifying in the triple jump with a leap of 38 feet, 5.75 inches. Chloe Coffee will compete in the high jump after a qualifying jump of 5 feet, 4 inches. 

Rouse senior Abigail Bendle ran the third-quickest qualifying time (43.78) in the 300-meter hurdles to qualify for her second state meet. Grayson Shirpik will compete in the girls’ high jump for the Raiders. 

McNeil senior Julia Perry ran the 300-meter hurdles in 44 seconds to qualify with the ninth-quickest time. 

Ryan O’Keefe will run in the 100-meter dash after a 10.47 time at regionals. Kobe Yepez will represent the Dragons in the 1600-meter run, qualifying with a time of 4:22.05. 

Vandegrift senior and Abilene Christian pledge Kyla Peeples returns to the state meet after a one-year absence, qualifying with a jump of 5 feet, 6 inches. 

Jordan Mathis will race in the 1600-meter run for the Vipers while junior Anthony Monte will compete in both the 1600-meter and 3200-meter races on Saturday morning.
