Vista Ridge High employee resigns following student relationship investigation

Posted

A Vista Ridge High School assistant band director resigned following an investigation into claims of an inappropriate student relationship, Leander and Round Rock ISD officials said.

In a letter that was sent out to the Vista Ridge community Tuesday, Principal Paul Johnson said the school had been notified on Oct. 11 of the former Round Rock High School employee’s alleged misconduct that reportedly happened in 2012. Neither school district gave the employee’s name.

The employee had joined the Vista Ridge band program in 2016 after leaving RRHS earlier that year, Johnson said. Upon receiving the notification about the RRHS investigation, the employee was removed from the school and an investigation was launched.

Ultimately, the employee resigned, Johnson said.

A letter from RRHS Principal Matt Groff states the school learned about the alleged situation in early October. Both districts have shared details with the Texas State Board of Educator Certification and local law enforcement.

According to Johnson’s letter, the employee had no prior disciplinary record and had passed Texas Department of Public Safety background check and employment reference checks.
