LEANDER, Texas — Leander police are asking for the public’s help identifying a man suspected of stealing merchandise from two smoke shops in the city.

Police said the man was captured on surveillance cameras at 512 Vape, 1907 S. Highway 183, Suite 201, and Paradox Smoke Shop, 106 W. Willis St.

The amount and type of merchandise taken were not disclosed. Police also have not said when the thefts occurred or how much time passed between them.

Surveillance images released by police show a bearded man wearing different clothing during the incidents.

In one set of images, the man is wearing a blue patterned, long-sleeve shirt. In another, he is wearing a black shirt, dark shorts and a red waistband.

Police have not yet announced an arrest.

The department said Detective Ty Stryker is handling tips in the investigation and asks that anyone who recognizes the man or has information about the thefts call Stryker at (512) 528-2800 or email tstryker@leandertx.gov.

The original report also described surveillance footage from the two businesses, but it remains unclear whether investigators believe the same person acted alone in both thefts or whether anyone else may have been involved.

Police have not released an estimated value for the stolen merchandise. That information could affect any eventual criminal charges if a suspect is identified and arrested.

Texas law generally sets theft penalties based on the value of property taken. However, no specific charge has been announced in the Leander investigation.
